If you have dry skin, dull skin, or peach fuzz, you may be looking for solutions. In your search, you may have heard of dermaplaning, but you’re not quite sure what it entails. We’re here to tell you it’s a great solution for all of these conditions. To learn more about it, keep reading
What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning, also known as a dermaplaning facial, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure where the aesthetician uses a tool to gently scrape (exfoliate) the top layer of dead skin cells off your face. It sounds extreme, but it doesn’t hurt! The procedure also removes peach fuzz. Professional dermaplaning is exponentially more effective than trying to use a lady’s facial razor to get the same results yourself.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning has a wide range of benefits, including:
- Immediate results.
- Softer, smoother skin.
- Gets rid of peach fuzz.
- Brightens and smooths your skin.
- Promotes absorption of skincare products.
- Safe for most skin types and all skin tones.
- No down time.
- Effects last up to 3 weeks.
You should not have dermaplaning done if you have an active acne breakout, skin rash, or very sensitive skin. Your aesthetician can determine if you’re a good candidate for a dermaplaning facial. If you like the results you achieve, you can schedule dermaplaning every 3-4 weeks, depending on your skin.
Dermaplaning Myths
Contrary to the myth, dermaplaning DOES NOT make you hair grow back faster, thicker, or darker. You may notice it more when peach fuzz starts to grow back because you’ve gotten used to a smooth face.
Another myth is that you can achieve the same results by buying a pack of facial razors on
Amazon. While these razors (if you’re extremely careful) may remove peach fuzz, they won’t exfoliate away the dead skin like professional dermaplaning will. In addition, those facial razors can be sharp, and people can and do cut themselves. A trained aesthetician has the skill and the tools to perform the procedure properly, for greatest effect.
Dermaplaning vs Microdermabrasion
Dermaplaning and microdermabrasion both exfoliate dead skin cells, using different methods. Dermaplaning provides light exfoliation and removes peach fuzz as well. Microdermabrasion provides more intense exfoliation using a tool that effectively sands your skin to help minimize acne scars and other issues.
